The POEM Program at Jubilee Farm will engage 20 undergraduate Black and multi-racial students in a holistic healing program to enhance their mental wellbeing and resilience, equip them as accredited peer support specialists and positively influence their leadership ability. The project will run over the course of 10 months and target undergraduates in central North Carolina (Durham, Orange, Alamance and Wake counties). POEM addresses the urgent need for culturally meaningful mental health support for Black students on college campuses by training young changemakers as certified peer support specialists, combined with holistic healing methods (mindfulness, Earth Care, yoga, restorative justice practice) to promote long-term transformation. Our unique program combines clinical practice, Indigenous ways of healing and transformative pedagogy to equip Black students with tools for caring for themselves, their peers and healing the Earth. In 10 months we will enhance student resilience, have 20 trained POEM changemakers and inspire community healing.
