The murals of Tibet are one of the most important surviving aspects of the cultural heritage of Tibet, yet they have remained, until now, essentially unknown. Before the digital revolution, it was impossible to capture these murals at full, life-size resolution. In Tibet, the murals were critical teaching tools, as well as visualization guides for contemplative practice. His Holiness the Dalai Lama has referenced their use in his own education. For the first time — and because of the groundbreaking work by Thomas Laird in Tibet — it is possible to see 300 of the greatest murals of Tibet without going there, and to preserve them for future generations.
